Mods can be called one of the important advantages of PC gaming. Thanks to modifications, the life of the game are extended, new content is added and the original ideas of the developers are expanded. It is all the more interesting that CD Projekt RED, which has long supported mod creators, did not notice a critical vulnerability in Cyberpunk 2077, with which cybercriminals can gain access to your computer.
One Reddit user noted that other people’s saves and mods potentially open up a hole for hackers. At the same time, the hole was known in advance, before the release of the hotfix 1.11 for Cyberpunk 2077.
Note that regular mods and saves cannot harm your computer. Only files specially created by hackers open access to hackers. Also, judging by the reports, even the PlayStation 4 can be hacked, not just the computer.
Another user has already patched the hole, but many advise to wait for the next patch from the developers, and not install modifications for now.
CDPR itself has not yet commented.
