The statement of the new President of the Cricket Board of India (BCCI) Roger Binny has also come to the fore regarding the Asia Cup 2023. Binny said on Thursday (October 20) that the board cannot decide whether the Indian team will tour Pakistan for the Asia Cup. Binny believes that the BCCI is up to the government for such a decision.
As per the scheduled schedule, the Asia Cup is to be played in Pakistan in September next year, just before the ODI World Cup to be held in India. BCCI secretary Jay Shah had recently said that the Indian team would prefer to play the tournament at a neutral venue instead of traveling to Pakistan for the Asia Cup next year. Now this comment of Roger Binny has come after Jay Shah’s statement.
Roger Binny said this thing
In an event organized by the Karnataka State Cricket Association, Binny said, ‘BCCI cannot take a decision for this. We need the approval of the government to leave the country. Whether we are leaving the country or teams are coming into the country, we need approval. Once we get the green signal from the government, we go according to it. We cannot decide on our own. We have to depend on the government. We have not approached the government yet.
On the other hand, on Thursday, Sports Minister Anurag Thakur said that the Indian team would need approval from the Ministry of Home Affairs to travel to Pakistan. Anurag Thakur said on this whole subject, ‘The safety of the players is paramount, the Home Ministry will decide whether the Indian team will go to the Asia Cup. We have played with Pakistan in ICC tournaments, but our stand on bilateral series is still there. Cricket cannot be played under the guise of terrorism.
Sports Minister gave the answer to Pakistan
On the other hand, there has been a threat to boycott the ODI World Cup from Pakistan. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Wednesday requested the Asian Cricket Council to convene an emergency meeting. Regarding this, Anurag Thakur said that all the teams that have qualified to play the World Cup in India will be invited. India is no longer in a position to listen to anyone and nobody has any reason to listen, we will welcome everyone and hope everyone will come.
Team India went to PAK for the last time in 2008
The Indian cricket team has not visited Pakistan since 2008. Anyway, due to sour political and diplomatic relations, the teams of both the countries do not play bilateral series yet. The last time a bilateral series was held between the two countries on Indian soil was in 2012-13. Then Pakistan toured India for three ODIs and two T20Is. While the Pakistan team won the ODI series 2-1, the T20 series was tied at 1-1.
