New Delhi. Recently, the run out by Deepti Sharma to Charlie Dean during India Women vs England Women’s ODI has been in controversy. English media and fans created a huge uproar on this incident on social media. The cricket world was also seen divided into two pieces regarding this run out. Some people appeared in favor of Deepti and justified it citing the rules. On the other hand, some people called this run out against the spirit of the game. This run out is also being linked to the 2019 World Cup. In such a situation, Ben Stokes is quite surprised by this.
The incident is being compared to Ben Stokes’ controversial over throw during the 2019 World Cup final amid the Deepti Sharma-Charlie Dean run out ruckus. In fact, during the 2019 World Cup final, England got 6 runs on Guptill’s over-throw in the last over of the match. Guptill’s throw was hit by Stokes’ bat, after which the ball went outside the boundary. There was a lot of controversy regarding this incident. Now Ben Stokes has given his reaction on connecting Deepti Sharma run out to this.

Ben Stokes made a tweet on this matter and wrote, “Why are people comparing my bat gai overthrow to Mankad?” Along with this, Stokes also shared a GIF of a confused man.

The England-based MCC has backed Deepti on the controversy, yet it has not changed the perception of a large section of English fans and has disappointed some of their players. Ben Stokes, however, never criticized the incident, preferring to call it ‘mankding’ despite the ICC rule book reading it as a run-out at the end of the non-striker.

At the same time, Deepti Sharna clarified on reaching India that she had given enough warning to England batsman Charlotte Dean before being dismissed in the 44th over. Deepti said, “It was a plan as we had repeatedly warned them (to leave the crease early). We did things according to the rules and guidelines. We told the umpires too, but she was there (outside the crease). We couldn’t do much.”
