The club’s players reached Tashkent from Kozhikode on Tuesday morning to take part in the AFC Women’s Club Championship. It was only after reaching there that he was informed about the suspension of AIFF. Due to this ban, the Gokulam Kerala team was disqualified to play in the AFC Women’s Club Championship 2022.

Gokulam Kerala women’s team president VC Praveen hasn’t lost his morale after the FIFA ban. He did not want his players to return from Tashkent without playing and for this he was ready to do anything. Gokulam Kerala is the first club in India to participate in the AFC Women’s Club Championship.

After much deliberation, Praveen decided that instead of calling him from Kerala to New Delhi, the team should call the Sports Ministry from the capital of Uzbekistan. The team manager spoke to the Sports Ministry officials from Tashkent in the presence of the players and their passionate appeal also paid off. Ministry officials immediately took up the matter with the AFC, which allowed the team to stay in Tashkent for another 48 hours.

Club President VC Praveen decided to write a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He apprised the Prime Minister about the condition of his players due to FIFA’s ban on India. Praveen said, ‘Girls are facing trouble for no fault of theirs. this is very sad. Everything happened suddenly and it was not expected. When the players have not done anything wrong then why are they facing the consequences.

Instead of returning back, the team is still stuck in the country it went to with great hopes. Praveen said, ‘It is a matter of expressing emotions. It is okay for us to call them but calling the team makes a difference. That’s why we felt that the players should also be a part of this conversation on the phone. The ministry immediately took action on this and contacted AFC.

Tournament to be held from August 20

The tournament is starting from 20 August in Karshi The Indian club was to start its campaign on 23 August. The team of Gokulam Kerala is currently in the capital of Uzbekistan while other teams have left for Karshi where the matches are to be played.
