Former selector Dilip Vengsarkar said that he would pick young fast bowler Umran Malik in the Indian team for the T20 World Cup starting in Australia next month. Umran impressed everyone with his pace during the Indian Premier League season (IPL 2022) this year. The young player took 22 wickets in 14 matches for SRH (Sunrisers Hyderabad) in IPL 2022. Due to which he was called for the national team and in June this year he made his debut against Ireland. Vengsarkar feels this was the right time to pick this young bowler as his pace could have made a difference, especially in Australia where the pitch has pace and bounce.
Vengsarkar told Sportstar, “There is no different thinking. I would have picked Umran Malik because of his pace. He is someone who is bowling at 150kmph; now you have to pick him, you choose him.” Can’t pick when he becomes a bowler at 130 kmph. In Dubai, where the wicket was flat and grassless, where there was no bounce, you needed fast bowlers. If you had medium pacers, you Tonked all around. You needed fast bowlers who could beat the batsmen with speed.

He said, “Shreyas Iyer is in good form and he missed. Mohammed Shami and Shubman Gill should also be in the team. I am impressed by Gill.”
Gill recently made his county debut for Glamorgan, and also scored a century for them in a match against Sussex.
