Team India will have to win the second ODI of Do or Die on Sunday to save the series against South Africa. If they lose in Ranchi, the Indian team will lose the second consecutive series against South Africa at home. Earlier in 2015, South Africa won the five-match series 3-2 on Indian soil. The Indian team has been able to win the ODI series against South Africa at home for 12 years.

India and South Africa have played 12 bilateral ODI series so far. Of these, India has won four, while South Africa has won six series. One series ended in a draw and one with no result. India also lost the ODI series in South Africa this year 0-3.

Team India was defeated in Lucknow
At present, all eyes are on the practice matches of the Rohit Sharma-led team, which arrived in Australia to play the T20 World Cup. In the ongoing three-match ODI series against South Africa, those players have been included, who missed the trip to Australia. Deepak Chahar has been out of the team due to injury. Washington Sundar has been included in his place. In the first match held in Lucknow, the Indian team lost by 9 runs. India is currently trailing 0-1 in the series.
Top order batting needs improvement
Mohammad Siraj and Avesh Khan could not perform effectively in the first match. There is a possibility that Bengal pacer Mukesh Kumar may get a chance to make his international debut. Shreyas Iyer scored a half-century in the first match. He is in the standby list of T20 World Cup. So he has to go ahead with the batting and perform. The top-order batsmen who failed in the first match also need to improve their level.

The good thing for India is that Sanju Samson is in form. However, even after seven years of making his debut, he has not been able to cement his place in the team. Samson played an unbeaten innings of 86 runs in 63 balls in Lucknow. At the same time, the cheerful Shikhar Dhawan has shown his leadership ability by winning series in Sri Lanka and West Indies. Dhawan will be expected to give a solid start to the team. At the same time, his partner Shubman Gill would also like to play according to his credentials.
South Africa would like to score points for the Super League
On the other hand, South Africa, led by Temba Bavuma, would like to collect points for the Super League to automatically qualify for next year’s ODI World Cup. Although captain Bavuma is not in form, his batsman David Miller has done well in ODIs after T20 as well. South Africa’s bowling attack, led by Kagiso Rabada, is also stronger than India.
Washington Sundar in place of Chahar
Washington Sundar was included in the squad on Saturday in place of Deepak Chahar, who was ruled out of the ODI series due to injury. The BCCI said in its statement, “During the last T20 match in Indore, Deepak Chahar has developed stiffness in his back. He was not a part of the playing XI in Lucknow. Now he will be under the supervision of the medical team at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Chahar is in the list of reserve players for the T20 World Cup. In his place, 23-year-old Sundar will play in the team. Sundar played his last international ODI in February. He too has recovered from injury. Sundar has played four Tests, four ODIs and 31 T20Is for India.
Probable playing-11 of both the teams
