IND vs WI, 1st T20I: The first T20 match between India and West Indies will be played on Wednesday. Both the teams will face each other in the historic Eden Gardens. After a one-sided victory 3-0 in the ODI series, Team India will be aiming to maintain the momentum. All three matches of the T20 series will be played at the Eden Gardens itself.
On the eve of the first match, BCCI shared a special photo on Twitter. In this picture, two former Indian captains Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid are seen talking to each other. However, in this picture, both Ganguly and Dravid were maintaining social distancing apart from applying masks on their faces.
Dravid took over as the head coach of Team India after Ravi Shastri’s tenure ended after the end of last year’s T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). At the same time, Sourav Ganguly is currently serving as the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
The iconic Eden Gardens is the home ground of Sourav Ganguly. This ground holds a special place for both the legends of Indian cricket. Ganguly and Dravid were part of the playing XI that defeated Australia in the 2001 Test. With that defeat ended the Kangaroo team’s winning streak of 16 consecutive Test wins.
Ganguly was the captain of the team in that Test match, while Dravid contributed 180 in the second innings. During this, Dravid turned the tide of the Test match by sharing a superb partnership of 376 runs with VVS Laxman (281). As a result, after playing the follow-on, the Indian team was able to win the match by 171 runs.
Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly made their Test debut together in 1996 at Lord’s. While Ganguly scored a century in the debut match, Dravid missed out on just five runs. Then Sourav Ganguly took over as the captain of India in the year 2000. Later on, Rahul Dravid also took over the command of the Indian team.
