IPL 2022 Shreyas Iyer appointed captain of Kolkata Knight Riders

Kolkata, ANI. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Wednesday announced the appointment of Shreyas Iyer as the captain for the Indian Premier League 2022 (IPL 2022) season. He will replace England player Eoin Morgan. The team reached the final of IPL 2021, but had to face defeat from Chennai Super Kings. In the mega auction last week, the right-handed batsman was bought by the franchise for Rs 12.25 crore. He has previously captained Delhi Capitals (DC). Under his captaincy, the team performed brilliantly in the year 2020. The team had reached the final chuck.

Accepting the captaincy of KKR, Shreyas Iyer said, “I am extremely honored to have the opportunity to lead a team of repute like KKR. IPL as a tournament brings together the best players from different countries and cultures and I look forward to leading this group of talented people. I would like to thank the owners, management and support staff of KKR for giving me the opportunity to lead this team and I am confident that we will be able to strike the right combination to achieve the team’s goals.

KKR coach Brendon McCullum said, “I am very excited to have Shreyas, one of the future leaders of India, to be named as the captain of KKR. I have thoroughly enjoyed Shreyas’s game and his captaincy skills from afar and am now looking forward to working closely.
