The Supreme Court was to hear today the petition of the National Testing Agency (NTA) regarding the result of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2021. However, the court adjourned the hearing. Now this hearing will be held on October 28, 2021, at 2 pm.

What is the whole matter?
The NTA had filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking a stay on the Bombay High Court order of re-examination of 2 NEET candidates and immediate hearing. The decision on whether the NEET result will be released soon will depend on the decision of the Supreme Court. The matter was listed for hearing today at 10:30 am and was to be heard by a three-judge bench headed by Justice L Nageswara Rao. However, due to some reasons, the hearing was adjourned till Thursday.

Results will be released in October, or will they be delayed?

The post-exam process of releasing answer keys and accepting objections has been completed. As per the normal timeline after NTA, the result of NEET 2021 was expected by the end of October. However, if the petition is rejected, it is expected that the NEET 2021 result may be delayed by at least 10-15 days.

The NTA officials have indicated that they are ready with the result and will be able to declare soon. However, if the Supreme Court upholds Bombay HC’s order, the result will be delayed. In its petition in the Supreme Court, the NTA has argued that holding the examination for 2 students would be prejudicial to the interest of over 16 lakh students awaiting results.

While some experts are in favor of releasing the results, they are also suggesting that the Bombay HC order is justified. The question of equal opportunity for all comes into play and the examination of both the candidates must be conducted before the final result is declared.

Meanwhile, earlier the Supreme Court had dismissed the petition filed for the delay in NEET results, saying injustice to lakhs of students. If the Supreme Court had given permission to declare the result, then there is a possibility that the NTA may release the result by the end of this week itself.
