Jaishankar’s statement came after US Vice President Kamala Harris’ warning on the Russia-Ukraine crisis. Harris warned Russia of dire consequences if it attacked Ukraine. The attack will have to pay an ‘unprecedented’ economic price. Such an attack will bring European countries closer to America. In the event of an attack, the United States, along with its allies and partners, will impose unprecedented economic sanctions. The Vice President made this statement at the annual Munich Security Conference held in Germany. A day earlier, President Joe Biden said he was “convinced” that Russian President Vladimir Putin had decided to strike Ukraine.
In his address, Harris conveyed that an attack on Ukraine could result in a very strong reaction from NATO to Russia. He said that the Biden administration, along with its allies, had tried to negotiate with Moscow to find a diplomatic solution. However, there was no good response from the Kremlin.
Jaishankar is also in Munich to participate in the security conference. He held meetings with ministers from Europe, Asia and other parts of the world. Participating in a panel discussion on Indo-Pacific in Munich, EAM also spoke on the challenges in the IPR, saying that they are different from the challenges facing Europe.
