In the T20 World Cup 2022, Rohit Sharma-led Team India is going to start its campaign against Pakistan on 23 October (Sunday). In this match, the eyes of the fans will also be on the playing-11 of the Indian team. It will be interesting to see who gets a chance between Pant and Karthik as wicket-keeper batsman. By the way, Dinesh Karthik’s place in the playing-11 seems to be confirmed.
Now great batsman Sunil Gavaskar has also given a statement about Team India’s playing-11. 73-year-old Sunil Gavaskar believes that if India makes Hardik Pandya the fifth bowling option in the upcoming T20 World Cup, then Dinesh Karthik and Rishabh Pant can play both in the playing-11.
…Hardik has to become the fifth bowler!
Gavaskar told Star Sports, ‘If they decide to go with six bowlers and Hardik Pandya is the sixth bowler, then Pant might not get a place in the team. But if they decide to field Hadik Pandya as the fifth bowler, then Rishabh Pant will have a chance to bat at No.6 and Karthik can come at No.7 after which four bowlers will land. It can happen but for that we will have to wait.
Gavaskar said, ‘They would definitely like to include a left-handed batsman in the team who is in such good form. Sometimes you may ask yourself, how many overs will Rishabh Pant get to play, will he get to play three or four overs? Three or four overs, is Karthik or Rishabh the batsman? These are all circumstances on which they have to look into and decide.
Difficult for Pant-Karthik to play together
Pant also gives Team India a left-hand option in the batting order. By the way, it is risky to play both Karthik and Pant together because in such a situation, Hardik Pandya will have to play as the fifth bowler. Gavaskar has also said the same thing. In the last few months, Hardik has also impressed with the ball. But in the past, he has been battling with a back injury, so India wants to play him as the sixth bowler.
