- Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara out of team
- Ishant-Saha also has no chance
Team India Test Squad: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced India’s Test squad for the two-match series against Sri Lanka starting March 4. Rohit Sharma has been made the captain, so now he will lead the Indian team in all three formats. By the way, the selectors have decided to take some difficult decisions keeping the future in mind.
In this episode, senior batsmen Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara have been dropped from the team for the home Test series against Sri Lanka. Apart from these two, experienced fast bowler Ishant Sharma and wicket-keeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha have also failed to find a place. Comments are being made fiercely on Twitter about the four senior players being out.
In the South Africa tour, Ajinkya Rahane scored 136 runs at an average of 22.66, while Cheteshwar Pujara scored 124 runs at an average of 20.66. During this, both the players scored one half-century each. Meanwhile, Saha has been traveling as a reserve wicketkeeper with the Indian team for the past one year since the historic Test series win against Australia in January 2021. Ishant Sharma, who was already out of the white ball set-up, was a regular member in the longest format of cricket.
Shreyas Iyer and Hanuma Vihari have been added to the team to strengthen the middle order. On the other hand, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammad Siraj and Umesh Yadav will be the main weapons of the fast bowling attack. The first match of the Test series against Sri Lanka will be played at the PCA Stadium in Mohali, while the second and final match will be played on March 12 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
