What is Bonus Share?
Generally, a company issues bonus shares to its shareholders as an incentive. It can also be called additional share. The ratio of this bonus share is determined by the board of the company. 3 dates are important under Bonus Shares. These are the record date, ex date and issue date. The record date is the date on which the bonus shares will be issued to whom it is decided. This means that only those who hold shares of the company on the record date are issued bonus shares.
Whereas the X bonus date is called the date which is usually one day before the record date. To be eligible for bonus shares, an investor should be holding the stock of the company at least one or two days before the ex-date.
