Mumbai: Former Indian cricket team captain and veteran batsman Sachin Tendulkar retired from international cricket in 2013. He played his last match against West Indies in Mumbai. Sachin Tendulkar says that Virat Kohli gave him a special gift after that match, but Sachin returned it. Virat Kohli was also a part of the Indian team’s playing XI in that Test match.

When Sachin retired after 24 years of international career, the whole country was emotional. Talking to Graham Bensinger about Virat Kohli’s gift, Sachin Tendulkar said, ‘I was sitting alone in a corner with towels on my head and wiping tears. I got really emotional. At that time Virat came to me and gave me the sacred thread that his father had given him.

Elaborating on this, Sachin Tendulkar said that he returned Virat because he was priceless. Sachin said, ‘I kept it for a while and then returned it. I said – it is priceless and it has to be with you and no one else. It is your property and it should be with you till your last breath. I gave it back to him. It was an emotional moment, something that will remain in my memory forever, forever.’

Sachin also revealed in the conversation that he never knew how much amount he was getting from BCCI to play cricket for India. He said that from his debut to retirement in 1989, his focus was only on scoring runs. Sachin Tendulkar is the highest run-scorer in Test cricket as well as in ODIs. He has 100 centuries in international cricket to his name.
