President Xi Jinping is such a person in Chinese politics, in whose hands political and military power has been concentrated for the last 10 years. Xi Jinping has been the General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party since 2012, since 2012 he is the chairman of China’s powerful Central Military Commission, that is, all the command of China’s army is in his hands and since 2013 he is the President of China. Now preparations are on for his coronation once again in Beijing city of China.
With this, Xi Jinping is going to break the 30-year-old tradition in China where it was earlier a rule that the Supreme Leader of the country would leave his post after 10 years. Other heads of state in the world have also followed this policy of staying in power. The biggest example of this is Russian President Vladimir Putin. After becoming president twice, Putin had to leave his post in 2008 because it was a constitutional compulsion. But Putin amended the Russian constitution and in 2012 became president again for the third time.
Chinese President Xi Jinping has made elaborate preparations to return as President for the third time. For this, a grand stage has been decorated in The Great Hall of Beijing. The 20th session of the Communist Party of China has started here on Sunday. In this convention, 2296 ‘selected’ delegates will attend a closed-door meeting in accordance with the rules and guidelines set by Xi Jinping. In this meeting, which will run from October 16 to 22, Xi Jinping will be given the key to the supreme power for the third time.
Number 2 will also change, only Jinping will survive
The special thing is that in this session of the Communist Party of China, only Jinping will be able to escape from the winds of change of leadership. Apart from Xi Jinping, Prime Minister Li Keqiang, who holds the number 2 position in Chinese leadership, will also have to leave his post. It is believed that Jinping is upset with his number-2 Prime Minister Li Keqiang and Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Therefore, the chair of these two is sure to be known. Apart from this, the entire leadership of the Communist Party will change. But Jinping will once again become the President of China, breaking the 30-year-old tradition.
To become China’s superleader, Jinping led China with a population of 1.5 billion in his own way. He neither cared for democratic values nor for global institutions.
Putin also amended the constitution
Let us tell you that Putin also amended the constitution of Russia to strengthen his hold on power. Putin’s second term in office ended in 2008. According to the Constitution of Russia, he could not become president again because the constitution prohibited any person to be president for more than two consecutive terms. To cut it off, Putin declared Dmitry Medvedev as his successor and made him president, then himself became prime minister.
After this this government made an amendment and increased the term of the President from 4 to 6 years. Here in 2012, when the term of Dmitry Medvedev ended, Putin again contested for the presidency and won. This was his third term. After 6 years, in 2018, Putin became the President for the fourth time. This time he made a radical change in the constitution. According to this change in 2020, Putin can become President for 2 more times after 2024. In this way, he can become President till 6+6 i.e. till 12 (2036).
Jinping also adopted the same policy
Jinping also followed the same path to stay on the power of China. In March 2018, Jinping made several amendments to the constitution of the Communist Party. Under this, the term limit for the appointment of President and Vice President was abolished. The central role of the Communist Party of China has also been increased for this constitutional amendment. After this constitutional amendment, on March 17, 2018, China appointed Xi Jinping as the President and after that there was no obstacle like term limit in his becoming the President.
Jinping then also took his confidants into the government. Wang Chishan became the Vice President. Whereas Li Keqiang was made Prime Minister the very next day. Emphasizing the inevitability of this change, Xi said that the post of president should also be similar to that of general secretary of the Communist Party of China and chairman of the Central Military Commission where there is no term limit.
Jinping equating himself with Mao
International affairs expert Pankaj Jha told Aaj Tak that Jinping has created a problem for the emerging leadership of China. Because of this, there is also a contradiction in the party, but it is not able to come out yet.
Defense expert Uday Bhaskar said that Xi Jinping is establishing himself in a way compared to Mao Zedong, and perhaps he intends to go even further. It has regional implications and is going to have an impact on international diplomacy as well.
Personality Cult Takes Support
President Jinping has started a personality cult culture to establish himself as a powerful leader in China. There newspapers, books, comics and cartoons are creating stories around his personality.
The Politburo of the CCP gave him the title of Lingxiu. It means ‘leader’. So far only Chiang Kai-shek, Mao Zedang and their successor Hua Guafeng have got this title. Jinping is sometimes also called Pilot at the helm. On 25 December 2019, the Politburo officially gave him the title of People’s Leader rénmín lǐngxi. Mao has got this title so far.
emphasis on military nationalism
On Sunday, Xi Jinping, in his address to the Congress of the Communist Party, has once again given a message that he is going to be in the role of the Chief of China’s politics. For this they are going to resort to military nationalism. He said that now China’s control over Hong Kong has been established and now it is Taiwan’s turn. Jinping said that we have taken strong steps to reject foreign interference in Taiwan. Taiwan is part of China’s One China policy and we will integrate that with China.
